Magill, who felt early education was extremely important, served on the executive of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Free Kindergarten Association for 12 years.
[9] She remained on the NZEI's executive until January 1945, when she retired both as a teacher and board member,[10] but continued her service on the Eastbourne Council for nearly 30 years.
Magill's partner, Mimie Wood (1888–1979), with whom she lived from 1920 until her death, was the accountant, librarian, and secretary for the Royal Society of New Zealand for 42 years.
Other members of their friendship circle included couples Daisy Isaacs and Amy Kane, and Rhoda Messenger and Dora Johnson.
[11] In addition to her club affiliations, Magill served on the executive board of the Red Cross, travelling to international conferences in support of their work.
