Margarita Penón

She currently represents Costa Rica on the board of directors of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration.

Arias Sánchez would go on to serve two terms as president of Costa Rica (1986-1990 and 2006-2010) and receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 1987.

She took part in her husband's efforts to promote peace in Central America and accompanied him on many of his official trips abroad.

She divorced Arias Sánchez in 2005 and resigned from the Legislative Assembly soon after he announced his intention to seek the presidency a second time.

Solís appointed Penón Góngora the representative of Costa Rica to the Central American Bank for Economic Integration.
