Maria Jolas (January 12, 1893 – March 4, 1987), born Maria McDonald, was an American pacifist, one of the founding members of transition in Paris with her husband Eugene Jolas.
[1] Jolas was born in Louisville, Kentucky,[2] but became closely associated with European culture.
[2] A well-known figure at peace conferences, Maria Jolas was active in Europe in opposing the U.S. war in Vietnam 1965–1975.
She also translated many works, including Gaston Bachelard's The Poetics of Space.
