Robertson was a co-founder of multiple LGBT agencies and worked as a counsellor for the AIDS Committee of Toronto.
After high school, she attended Hamilton Teachers' College and McMaster University.
[1] Robertson began her LGBT activist career as a co-founder of the Hamilton McMaster Gay Liberation Movement in 1970.
[2] While attending the University of Waterloo in 1974, she was discriminated against by a landlord on the basis of her sexual orientation.
Despite not having any legal grounds from which to fight, she and her friends launched a media campaign against the landlord.
