In addition to serving the hillside Marino community, the station provides the rest of Adelaide with public transport access to a host of local amenities such as the Marino Community Hall (20M) and the Historic Kingston House (500M).
The 1974-built station building was built during the duplication of the line between Oaklands and Hallett Cove Beach in 1975.
The station did have a ticket office but it had closed by the 1990s, then replaced with a “bus” type shelter in 2011.
The station is still operating to this day running short lines with small electric powered locomotives.
[2] On the 26 October 2024 South Australian Premier the Honourable Peter Malinauskas MP, announced the State Government will invest 2 million dollars to upgrade the Marino Train Station, following a House of Assembly Petition and extensive community advocacy from Darren Bailhache, the Marino and Kingston Park Neighbourhood Watch Area Coordinator between 2022 - 2025.
