Her thesis was titled "The physical response of soft musculoskeletal tissues to short pulsed laser irradiation," and her doctoral advisor was Michael Stephen Feld.
[6] At MIT, she was part of the Spectroscopy Lab,[7] worked in the Laser Biomedical Research Center, and was a teacher's assistant for an introductory physics course.
[2] After completing her PhD, McNeese stayed on at MIT as a postdoc for two months before accepting a postdoctoral position at the United States Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C. After about a year at the Naval Research Laboratory, McNeese was hired as a faculty member at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2000.
[4] At this point, Spelman's physics program was in its early stages, and at the time of McNeese's hiring, the department grew from three to five faculty members.
[8][5] She is a member of the American Physical Society and has served on the group's Committee on Minorities, Panel on Public Affairs, and is currently a General Councilor.
