Having studied Law with Samuel Cowles, Esq., of Farmington, Connecticut, he opened an office in that place.
His health failing he returned to his native place, and refrained for a time from professional activity.
During this period he interested himself in planning and superintending the Connecticut State Prison, in the establishment of which at Wethersfield he was the chief instrument.
During the last fifteen years of his life he was engaged with energy and success in the practice of his profession in Hartford.
