Born in Palmar Sur,[1] Obando played a total of 21 seasons in the Primera Division of Costa Rica between 1979 and 2000, and participated in 685 football games.
[3] Obando holds the record as the most-capped player in the Costa Rican Primera División with 685 appearances.
He made his professional debut on 22 July 1979 for Herediano against Municipal Puntarenas[1] and scored his first goal on 9 September 1979 against San José.
[4] He played from 1979 to 2000 with Herediano, scoring 48 goals[5] for them in 480 matches,[6] San Carlos, Cartaginés, Saprissa, Ramonense, Turrialba and Municipal Puntarenas.
[7] Obando made his debut for Costa Rica in a March 1980 friendly match against Honduras[4] and competed at the 1984 Summer Olympics.
