It was named after the daughter of John Anderson, 1st Viscount Waverley, then the governor of Bengal.
[2] Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation eventually converted the yacht into a floating restaurant, which was opened on 24 September 1978.

On 16 October 2014, the vessel burned down after a fire originated in the bar on the lower deck.
[7][8] On 12 February 2017, the Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation launched the Sonargaon Bhasoman Restaurant and Bar, which took the place of Mary Anderson.
