Mary Banotti

Mary Elizabeth Banotti (née O'Mahony; 29 May 1939 – 10 May 2024) was an Irish Fine Gael politician who served as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the Dublin constituency from 1984 to 2004.

[1] She was a sister of the former Minister Nora Owen and her mother was a niece of the Irish political leader Michael Collins.

Banotti unsuccessfully contested the 1983 Seanad election and the Dublin Central by-election the same year.

[3] She was Fine Gael's candidate in the 1997 presidential election,[3] coming second to Fianna Fáil's Mary McAleese.

[6][7][8] Banotti served as Honorary President of Health First Europe, and a member of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems' board.
