Mary Beth Heffernan (born 1965) is a Los Angeles-based artist working in photography, sculpture, installation and social practice art.
The PPE Portrait project received national and international recognition on NPR,[11] PRI,[13] the BBC,[14] the Los Angeles Review of Books,[15] MSNBC,[16] and was featured in Tiffany Schlain's 2015 film The Adaptable Mind.
[20] In 2020, Heffernan adapted the PPE Portrait Project for the COVID-19 pandemic and was named an "inspiring force" in Los Angeles art in 2020 by Hyperallergic senior editor Elisa Wouk Almino.
Heffernan collaborated to roll out the project at Stanford University,[21] UMASS Memorial Medical Center,[22] and the ICU Bridge Program of Canada.
[23] She supported scores of hospitals in the US and worldwide in adopting PPE Portraits, including Azienda Usl di Piacenza, Italy.
