Known as Loveville Road, the highway runs 2.89 miles (4.65 km) from MD 5 in Loveville north to Oakville Road in Oakville.

The state highway heads north as a two-lane undivided road through farmland.

[1][2] MD 247 was constructed as a gravel road between 1940 and 1942.

[3][4] Aside from repaving, the state highway has changed very little since.

The entire route is in St. Mary's County.
