Masalanabo Modjadji VII

Masalanabo Modjadji VII (22 January 2005 –) is the seventh in a line of the Balobedu tribe's Rain Queens.

She was formally recognized as the queen by the South African government in 2023, following a lengthy period of royal dispute and legal challenges.

Despite being widely expected to ascend as the next Rain Queen, the Modjadji Royal Council, led by her elder brother Prince Lekukela, contested her recognition, claiming that the proper traditional processes had not been followed.

The royal family also raised objections to her upbringing under the guidance of former legal advisor Mathole Motshekga, accusing him of manipulating the situation for personal gain.

This dynasty has followed a matrilineal succession for over 200 years, with leadership passed down through the female line, a tradition that continues with Masalanabo's ascension.
