[1] Panot was the coordinator for La France Insoumise (FI) support groups ahead of the 2017 presidential election.
[2] Mathilde Panot has taken strong stances for changing the democratic institutions of France, calling for a new Republic,[3] based on more direct citizen participation and strengthening of the role of the Parliament.
Through the passing of the bill she put forward on 24 November 2022, Mathilde Panot was the first MP to initiate the enshrining of the right to abortion in the Constitution.
[5] The parliamentary group then led by Jean-Luc Mélenchon made a few unsuccessful attempts to introduce it onto the National Assembly agenda in 2018 and 2019.
However, after the shock caused by the Supreme Court overruling Roe v. Wade in the United-States of America, Mathilde Panot proposed it again in July 2022, forcing it onto the agenda through her group's niche parlementaire[6] (once every year each parliamentary group can decide of the session agenda).
