The town is a rapidly developing residential neighborhood in Gombe division of Nansana municipality in Wakiso District.

Matugga is located approximately 20 kilometres (12 mi), by road, north of Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city.

The road was upgraded from gravel to bitumen in 2010 at an estimated cost of US$20 million.
