Maurice Hegeman (c. 1848 – died February 1913)[1] was an American musical theatre actor, playwright, librettist, and the inventor of the Brooklyn cocktail.
[3] A successful "road musical" starring Dan Mason, the production had a long tour through the mid-western and eastern portions of the United States that began in the autumn of 1905.
[4] In 1908–1909 Hegeman starred in Ludwig Engländer's musical Miss Innocence at the New York Theatre; playing the triple roles of The Marquis de Chabert, Schmalz, and Dr.
There he invented the original version of the Brooklyn Cocktail in 1910 which included a mix of hard cider, absinthe, and ginger ale.
[1] At the time of his death, he was starring in the national tour of The Pink Lady alongside his wife, the actress Alice Hegeman (1880–1970).
