Max Kortlander

Maximilian Joseph Kortlander (September 1, 1890 - October 11, 1961) was an American composer, arranger, and pianist.

After moving to New York City, he wrote the hit song 'Tell Me' (1919), which was recorded by Al Jolson, one of the most popular singers of the time.

Also in 1931, due to sales declining for QRS piano rolls, caused by the increased popularity of radio, Kortlander bought the assets for them and continued them under the name 'Imperial Industrial Corporation'.

His composing output lessened in the 1930s, but he still saw his songs recorded by popular singers like Rudy Vallée and Tommy Dorsey.

Max Kortlander was in charge of QRS piano roll manufacturing until his death of a sudden heart attack in his office on October 11, 1961.
