Munising Township, Michigan

[4] The city of Munising is adjacent to the northwest corner of the township, but is an autonomous municipality.

There were 1,154 housing units at an average density of 5.7 per square mile (2.2/km2).

The racial makeup of the township was 73.02% White, 18.98% African American, 4.29% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.86% from other races, and 2.50% from two or more races.

[3] In 2000, there were 828 households, out of which 37.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.0% were married couples living together, 6.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.2% were non-families.

14.5% of all households were made up of individuals, and 5.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
