Mentor (1799 ship)

She made one voyage as a slave ship in the triangular trade in enslaved people.

On 12 May 1799, Mentor, Gilbert Curry, master, acquired a letter of marque.

[1] Captain Curry sailed from Liverpool on 24 June 1799, bound for West Africa.

[2] On 22 September Mentor, Currie, master, foundered on her way to Liverpool.

[4] Although Mentor was lost to the perils of the sea, during the period 1793 to 1807, war, rather than maritime hazards or slave resistance was the greatest cause of vessel losses among British slave vessels.
