Mercer Beasley (March 27, 1815 – February 19, 1897) was a chief justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court from 1864 to 1897.
[1][2][3] He was born March 27, 1815, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Frederick and Maria Beasley.
In 1838 he was admitted to the bar and had his practice in Trenton, New Jersey, where he was candidate for mayor.
Following the death of Chief Justice Edward W. Whelpley,[4] Beasely was appointed by the Governor of New Jersey to a seven-year term to the Supreme Court as chief justice on March 8, 1864.
[1] Beasley died from pneumonia on February 19, 1897, in Trenton[5] and was interred at Riverview Cemetery.
