Michael Elias Marmura

Michael Elias Marmura (November 11, 1929 - September 17, 2009) was a Palestinian scholar of Islamic philosophy and Professor Emeritus of Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations at the University of Toronto.

[1] Michael Elias Marmura was born on November 11, 1929, in Jerusalem, Mandatory Palestine.

He completed his early education in Jerusalem, and after becoming well-versed in the literary tradition of his native Arabic, he moved to the United States to further his studies.

He retired from the profession in 1995 after thirty-six years of teaching Islamic thought and Arabic literature at the University of Toronto, where he also served as chair of the department.
