He served six seasons as the head coach of the Indiana Hoosiers men's soccer team.
Freitag graduated from Christian Brothers College High School in St. Louis, Missouri.
In 1980, Freitag signed with the San Diego Sockers of the North American Soccer League, but played no first team games.
In 2004, he replaced Jerry Yeagley as head coach and promptly took the team to the 2004 Division I Men's College Cup championship.
In June 2011, Freitag was added to the University of Denver men's soccer staff as a volunteer assistant coach.
