Minamitane (南種子町, Minamitane-chō) is a town located on the island of Tanegashima, in Kumage District, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan.

The main spaceport of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency is located at the Tanegashima Space Center in Minamitane.

Minamitane has a mayor-council form of government with a directly elected mayor and a unicameral town council of 10 members.

Minamitane, collectively with the other municipalities of Kumage District and the city of Nishinoomote, contributes two members to the Kagoshima Prefectural Assembly.

In terms of national politics, the town is part of the Kagoshima 4th district of the lower house of the Diet of Japan.
