At the 2000 census there were 5,071 people, 2,197 households, and 1,379 families living in the county.
The racial makeup of the county was 73.9% White, 4.8% Black or African American, 15.5% Native American, 0.8% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 2.7% from other races, and 2.4% from two or more races.
