Morens

Morens (French: [mɔʁɑ̃s], Franco-Provençal: [moˈʁɛ̃] ⓘ) is a former municipality in the district of Broye, in the canton of Fribourg, Switzerland.

[2] Morens had an area, as of 2009[update], of 2.6 square kilometers (1.0 sq mi).

Of the rest of the land, 0.42 km2 (0.16 sq mi) or 16.2% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.03 km2 (7.4 acres) or 1.2% is either rivers or lakes.

The blazon of the municipal coat of arms is Gules, on a Pale Argent three Roses of the field barbed and seeded proper.

[6] Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks French (110 or 89.4%) as their first language, German is the second most common (10 or 8.1%) and Portuguese is the third (2 or 1.6%).

[7] The age distribution, as of 2000[update], in Morens is; 18 children or 14.6% of the population are between 0 and 9 years old and 13 teenagers or 10.6% are between 10 and 19.

[6] The historical population is given in the following chart:[2][10] In the 2011 federal election the most popular party was the SVP which received 41.9% of the vote.

[6] There were 75 residents of the municipality who were employed in some capacity, of which females made up 44.0% of the workforce.

[14] From the 2000 census[update], 86 or 69.9% were Roman Catholic, while 22 or 17.9% belonged to the Swiss Reformed Church.

This is followed by three years of obligatory lower Secondary school where the students are separated according to ability and aptitude.

The upper Secondary school is divided into gymnasium (university preparatory) and vocational programs.

After they finish the upper Secondary program, students may choose to attend a Tertiary school or continue their apprenticeship.
