It is about 8 miles north east of Chester city centre on the B5393 road and lies within the Cheshire green belt area.
Delamere Forest is situated 2 miles to the east of the village and is within easy walking distance.
There are references to the Station Hotel and its bowling green with magnificent views as far back as 1891.

This region originated at the end of the last ice age, when glacial meltwaters formed a vast lake in the West Cheshire basin which burst through the sandstone ridge, and deposited large amounts of sand and gravel across an extensive outwash fan on the eastern side of the ridge.
