Multiverse is the seventh solo studio album by American rapper Wiz Khalifa, released July 29, 2022, by Taylor Gang Entertainment and Asylum Records.
"[10] With Vibe's Preezy Brown, Wiz explained the album's name coming "from the unique world that I live in and experience", as well as the process of building and recording from his home studio in Encino, California.
"[12] Shifter's Kevin Bourne writes that Khalifa "has returned to form as a solo artist" and "brings his full repertoire and arsenal to the project, exploring different themes and sounds, while delivering a complete body of work."
This includes album opener "Big Daddy Wiz"'s "little groove and funk", which contains a sample of Cheryl Lynn's "Got to Be Real"; "1000 Women" with a saxophone accompaniment and lyrics about Khalifa's "priority being having children and one woman in his life", which "is grown ass man messaging that is in stark contrast to what we hear in music today"; "Keys" which contrasts "beautiful storytelling about life and love" with drill production; and closer "Thank Him" which sees Khalifa discussing his faith in God.
"[14] The Honey Pop's Kristian Gonzales notes the album's fusion of hip hop with 1970s-80s R&B and pop as possibly inspired by Childish Gambino & Tyler, the Creator, as well as highlighting "MVP"'s "G-funk vibe & singsong flows"; "Something Real"'s "deepest venture into pop balladry, delivering a track fit for a 1980s John Hughes film"; "We Don't Go Out to Nightclubs Anymore/Candlelight Girl" "echo[ing] the quiet storm romanticism of New Edition & Luther Vandross"; and "Mirror Love (Groove 2)" which "continues the 1980s vibe reminiscent of Phil Collins & Prince, complete with an electric guitar solo.
