Murist (French: [myʁist]; Arpitan: Muri [myˈʁi] ⓘ) is a former municipality in the district of Broye, in the canton of Fribourg, Switzerland.
Its territory was enlarged in 1981 with the formerly independent municipalities La Vounaise and Montborget, and in 1992 with Franex.
[3] Murist hds an area, as of 2009[update], of 8.2 square kilometers (3.2 sq mi).
The blazon of the municipal coat of arms is Gules, a Tower Argent roofed issuant from Coupeaux Sable between two Mullets Or pierced.
[7] Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks French (396 or 91.9%) as their first language, German is the second most common (31 or 7.2%) and Italian is the third (3 or 0.7%).
[8] The age distribution, as of 2000[update], in Murist is; 70 children or 16.2% of the population are between 0 and 9 years old and 49 teenagers or 11.4% are between 10 and 19.

[7] There were 208 residents of the municipality who were employed in some capacity, of which females made up 41.8% of the workforce.
In the tertiary sector; 13 or 46.4% were in wholesale or retail sales or the repair of motor vehicles, 4 or 14.3% were in the movement and storage of goods, 2 or 7.1% were in a hotel or restaurant, 3 or 10.7% were technical professionals or scientists, 4 or 14.3% were in education.
[7] From the 2000 census[update], 294 or 68.2% were Roman Catholic, while 89 or 20.6% belonged to the Swiss Reformed Church.
This is followed by three years of obligatory lower Secondary school where the students are separated according to ability and aptitude.
The upper Secondary school is divided into gymnasium (university preparatory) and vocational programs.
After they finish the upper Secondary program, students may choose to attend a Tertiary school or continue their apprenticeship.
