The Museum of Srem (Serbian: Музеј Срема / Muzej Srema) in Sremska Mitrovica is the city institution focused on the research, preservation and presentation of historical objects and artifacts related to the Syrmia region.
[1] The founding of the museum was closely linked to archaeological findings from the Roman city of Sirmium.
[1] By November 23, 1946, it became a comprehensive museum with archaeological, ethnographic, historical, art, and natural history collections.
[2] In 1869, the researcher Feliks Kanitz initiated the formation of the "Sirmium" society, aiming to collect old monuments and lay the groundwork for a museum.
[2] The Church Art museum was at the time one of the first of its kind in Democratic Federative Yugoslavia and opened formally on June 30, 1946.
