Teshima was born in Hōfu, Yamaguchi, and began judo from 4th grade in elementary school.
[1] She entered the Sumitomo Marine & Fire Insurance after graduating from high school in 1993.
[1] She excelled at Osotogari, and also coached former world champion Gella Vandecaveye.
[1] In 1997, Teshima participated in the World Judo Championships in Paris but was defeated by Cho Min-Sun in the first round.
After then, she was regarded as one of the candidates of representative at Olympic Games in 2000 but was unable due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
