Nessaea is a genus of nymphalid butterflies found in the Neotropical realm.
Unlike virtually all other butterflies with blue coloration, the blue colors in this genus are due to pigmentation [pterobilin (biliverdin IXγ)][2] rather than iridescence (e.g., Morpho species).
