Netela

A netela (Amharic: ነጠላ) is a handmade scarf-like two-layered cloth made of cotton worn by Ethiopian and Eritrean women.

[1] However, both genders wear netela during Mass at churches of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church denomination as a sign of modesty & for religious purposes.

It has become an important garment to the Ethiopian diaspora due to the military coup in 1974.
