[3] Located in the southern part of the county, it borders the following townships: No municipalities are located in New Lyme Township.
[4] The township was first settled by former Connecticut resident Joel Owen in 1803.
[5] The township was originally known as Lebanon until 1825, when it was renamed for Lyme, Connecticut, the former home of many of its early settlers.
[6] The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1.
Currently, the board is composed of chairman Christopher Zaebst and members William Edelman and Lee Fetters.
