New Pittsburgh Platform

The "Statement of Principles" was adopted by the Central Conference of American Rabbis in May, 1999.

The New Pittsburgh Platform was a "centrist" compromise between the traditionalist and Classical wings of the Reform movement.

[1] The 1999 Pittsburgh Platform affirmed that "God, Torah and Israel" are the core principles of the Reform movement.

The platform emphasized the importance of mitzvot as "sacred obligations", affirmed the importance of studying Hebrew, and called for Reform Jews to engage in "ongoing study of the whole array of (mitzvot)".

The platform expresses support for "Medinat Yisrael" (the State of Israel) and encourages aliyah.
