New Russia Township, Lorain County, Ohio

New Russia Township is one of the eighteen townships of Lorain County, Ohio, United States.

Located in central Lorain County, it borders the following townships and city: Part of the village of South Amherst is located in the township's northwest.

[5] Previously known as "Russia Township", the name "New Russia" became effective on January 1, 1992 after the residents of the township wanted to separate from the City of Oberlin over concerns due to the municipality's growth.

[6] The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1.

There is also an elected township fiscal officer,[7] who serves a four-year term beginning on April 1 of the year after the election, which is held in November of the year before the presidential election.
