She was member of the Bundestag from 2007 to 2017, by succeeding Matthias Berninger after he resigned in 2007 and then by getting a seat in the 2009 and 2013 Federal Election.
She worked as a constituency advisor for Antje Vollmer from 2004 to 2005 and for Sigrid Erfurth [de] from 2005 to 2007.

From February 2010 to September 2013, Maisch was the chairwoman of the Committee on Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection.
