The anonymous reviewer praised the "fairly inspired" plot gimmick involving hunt for Bond's own head.

Benson's only complaint was the lack of a central villain, though he praised the "well-written female characters (Sukie Tempesta and Nannie Norrich)" who accompany Bond.
