The district serves an extensive rural region, spanning 335 square miles (870 km2) across the northern section of Tioga County.
According to 2000 federal census data, it served a resident population of 14,670.
[2] The educational attainment levels for the Northern Tioga School District population (25 years old and over) were 85.6% high school graduates and 11.7% college graduates.
[3] According to the Pennsylvania Budget and Policy Center, 44.6% of the district's pupils lived at 185% or below the Federal Poverty Level [1] as shown by their eligibility for the federal free or reduced price school meal programs in 2012.
[8] Elkland Area High School was closed in 2011 due to low enrollment.
