Nottingham Health Profile

[1] It is a questionnaire designed to measure a patient’s view of their own health status, in a number of areas.

The first part focuses on health and comprises 38 items which deal with pain, energy, sleep, mobility, emotional reaction and social isolation.

2200 statements describing the effects of poor health were collected from over 700 patients, which covered social, psychological, physical and behavioural sectors.

In 1978, a grant was received from the Social Science Research Council in order to further develop the NHP into a population survey tool.

Clinical research studies where the NHP was utilized include investigations into erythropoiesis-stimulating agents,[16] glucocorticoid replacement therapy[17] and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation for tinnitus.
