Orissa High Court

It was difficult to administratively manage such a vast area, inhabited by people speaking different languages and having different traditions.

Administrative exigencies required separation of such areas which originally did not form part of Bengal.

However, the said new province of Bihar and Odisha was under the jurisdiction of the Calcutta High Court.

On 9 February 1916, in exercise of the powers under Section 113 of the Government of India Act, 1915, the King of the United Kingdom issued letters of patent constituting the High Court of Patna.

The court had a sanctioned judge strength of 27 which stood increased to 33 by the notification dated 2nd February, 2022.
