Orestes or Orestis (Greek: Ορέστης) is a Greek name meaning 'mountain dweller'.

[1] Orestes in Greek mythology is the son of Clytemnestra and Agamemnon, brother of Electra and Iphigenia.

He is noted for avenging the murder of his father by killing his mother and her lover Aegisthus, whereafter he was pursued by the Furies and driven mad.
