It is the church for the Os parish which is part of the Nord-Østerdal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Hamar.
The yellow, wooden church was built in a cruciform design in 1862 using plans drawn up by the architect Peter Høier Holtermann.
Historically, the Os area was part of the In 1638, the church received a new altarpiece.
The last service in the old church was held on Sunday, 16 March 1862, and the next day the furniture and loose parts such as windows, doors, and the like, were sold at auction.
The new building was designed by Peter Høier Holtermann and the lead builder was Jon Eriksen Berg.
