[citation needed] Oshodi Tapa is reported to have been a slave from the Nupe[1] Kingdom at Bida who was indentured to Oba Osinlokun.
[2] Oshodi family accounts note that when Tapa was a little boy about to be loaded onto a Portuguese ship bound for the Americas, he escaped and sought refuge in Oba Osinlokun's palace.
[9][10] Oshodi Tapa played a significant role in putting up a spirited defense to the British invasion of Lagos in November and December 1851.
Oshodi Tapa played an instrumental role in negotiations for the signing of The Treaty of Epe on September 28, 1854, between Kosoko and Consul Benjamin Campbell.
[12] Tapa also leveraged his vast experience as a trader during his earlier years serving Oba Osinlokun in colonial Lagos.
