Ottilie Reylaender

In 1905 she went on a trip to Italy with the sculptors de:Hedwig Woermann and de:Dora Herxheimer and met the Polish glass painter Bohdan von Suchocki in Munich, who later became her partner for a long time after he had separated from Franziska zu Reventlow.

[1] In 1908 she spent most of her time in Rome and in May was able to move into a studio at Villa Strohl-Fern, where she received support from Hermann Haller and Paul Osswald.

[2] Osswald established contact with the art dealer and collector Alfred Flechtheim, who managed to sell her paintings and later included them in his gallery's programme.

After the Second World War, together with de:Oda Hardt-Rösler, she founded the private painting school Das Atelier im Freien.

[5] In addition to her early portraits of girls and peasants, which were influenced by Paula Modersohn-Becker,[6] Ottilie Reylaender painted numerous landscapes of her homeland and later of the countries she travelled to.
