Ovington Weller

Ovington Eugene Weller was born on January 23, 1862, in Reisterstown, Maryland, to Wilmina (née Berryman) and William F.

[1][4] Following his service in the Navy, Weller enrolled at the National Law School in Washington, D.C., in 1883.

[2] He worked in banking and manufacturing, and was a member of a stock brokerage firm until retiring in 1901.

[1] Weller was appointed as chairman of the State Roads Commission of Maryland in 1912 by Governor Phillips Lee Goldsborough.

[1][3][4] Weller was treasurer of the Republican National Senatorial Committee from 1918 to 1920 until he was elected to the United States Senate in 1920, defeating incumbent John Walter Smith.

[2][1][3][4] Following his election in 1934, Governor Harry Nice appointed Weller as chairman of the Public Service Commission and served from 1935 to 1940.
