Paal Olav Berg (18 January 1873 – 24 May 1968), born in Hammerfest,[1] was a Norwegian politician for the Liberal Party.
[2][3] Paal Berg was instrumental in the German Dismissal of pro-Nazi puppet regime of Vidkun Quisling to be replaced by a council of Norwegian citizens, including himself on April 15, 1940.
This was overseen after April 24 by Hitler's appointee Josef Terboven.
Indeed, William L. Shirer names him the secret leader of the Norwegian Resistance.
[4] He was elected a Foreign Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1947.
