The college was founded in 1924 as a campus of Paris Independent School District.

As defined by the Texas Legislature, the official service area of PJC consists of the following:[2] Paris Junior College's mascot is the Dragon and the school colors are green and gold.

The athletic teams compete in the Southwest Junior College Conference (SJCC) of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

PJC offers athletic scholarships in baseball, softball, and men and women's basketball.

[4] Boyd Converse was the program's final coach before the football was dropped after the 1961 season.
