Parramatta Justice Precinct

Parramatta, founded in the same year as Sydney by the Colony of New South Wales in 1788, is the oldest inland European[further explanation needed] settlement in Australia and is the economic capital[clarification needed] of Greater Western Sydney and the sixth largest central business district in Australia.

[4] The Parramatta Justice Precinct provides, in addition to judicial and administrative functions, community service health- and welfare-related needs.

The first Parramatta courthouse was opened by Governor Arthur Phillip in 1791 and was closed and demolished in 1826 due to the poor condition of the building.

[5] Notably, this courthouse bore the royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom.

[7] The area on which the current Parramatta Justice Precinct is located was the site for health services since 1790,[8] including the Colonial Hospital, founded in 1818.
