Pat McDonell

While the present SAA and his predecessors share a rich history and other similarities, the position has evolved over the centuries to meet contemporary needs.

Prior to his role in Parliament, McDonell served in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) for 30 years, rising to the rank of Assistant Commissioner.

Pat McDonell is Chair, Board of Directors of the Canadian Association of Sergeant-at-Arms (CASAA), formally incorporated on April 29, 2010.

The Canadian Association on the Sergeant at Arms is a vital platform for members to meet and discuss their unique role in parliamentary democracy, promoting knowledge of traditional and contemporary responsibilities.

CASAA Facilitates the exchange of best business practices, including ceremonial and security duties, while fostering strong relationships among Canadian Sergeants-at-Arms and their Commonwealth counterparts.
