Patrick Marriott

Major General Patrick Claude Marriott CB, CBE, DL (born 23 February 1958) is a former British Army officer who became Commandant of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

He was an instructor at the Staff College from 1991, before service with the Queen's Royal Lancers in 1993 and taking up an appointment at the British Army Training Unit Suffield in 1995.

Later that year he became Commanding Officer of the Queen's Royal Lancers, after which he was Chief of Staff, HQ 1 (UK) Armoured Division from 2000.

While many soldiers were complaining about the politicians who had sent them into action without enough men or equipment, Marriott took the view that the British could never have gained the trust of the people of Basra, thanks to their history.

[8] Marriott served as a member of the House of Laity of the General Synod of the Church of England from 2005 to 2012,[9] and was a director of the British Forces Foundation from 2009 to 2012.
